As of 1935, the Nuremberg Laws banned Jews in Germany from holding public office. Starting in 1936, Jews—now unemployed—had to do unpaid compulsory labor. As of 1938, with the introduction of "segregated work deployment" (Geschlossener Arbeitseinsatz), Jewish men were subject to forced labor and were effectively without rights.
